Lakeside and Ambleside Mountain Rescue
Lakeside and Ambleside Mountain Rescue were in desperate need of a rebuilt website, their current one was old, becoming unwieldy and the team felt it could be improved. Alice from Computer Gentle joined a group of around 16 other geeks to spend a weekend in the Lake District with the clients donating our time, rebuilding a website.
Alice spent most of their time providing tech support to some of England's finest Drupal Developers, ensuring the network was stable enough for them to build an amazing website. This was made difficult by terrible or non-existent internet connections, but we ended up with the best system we could given the restrictions.
Once the network was stable enough to be left to run, Alice then moved on to pair-programming on some difficult tasks. First of all working on a new Geo Widget, then moving on to spend most of their time assisting in processing existing data into a machine-readable format. Alice massively improved this processing by making a few key changes, resulting in greatly-increased efficiency.
We hope to repeat this type of weekend again for clients in North and West Yorkshire in the coming months.
